I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Preventive and Social Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) (2008-), a Permanent Professor at the Graduate Program in Dentistry at UFRGS (2008-), and a Visiting Professor at the Graduate Program in Dentistry at Federal University of Maranhao (2011-). I also completed periods as visiting researcher at the College of Dentistry, University of Illinois at Chicago, USA (2006-2007) and at the Intramural Research Program of the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging, Epidemiology Section, National Institutes on Aging, in Baltimore, USA (2005). I acted as the Director of the Social Dentistry Research Center at UFRGS between 2010 and 2018 and was Senior Visiting Professor at the Global Burden of Diseases Study of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA (2019-2020). As a researcher, I published more than 180 papers in peer reviewed journals and have experience in Dentistry, with emphasis on Dental Public Health and Oral Epidemiology, working mainly on the following topics: gerodontology, global health, oral cancer, longitudinal studies and systematic review and meta-analysis.
