Dr. Bertram J. Hughes has been serving the dental profession for over 30 years. He currently serves as the President of the National Dental Association Foundation and a Board of Trustees member for the Florida Dental Association. In addition to serving on the Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders board, he also serves as a Delegate to the ADA Delegation for the 17th District and on the Central Florida District Dental Association (CFDDA) Executive Committee.
Dr. Hughes was the General Chair for the Florida Dental Convention from 2012-2019, elected to the Committee on Annual Meetings of the ADA, serving as it General Chair for Local Arrangements in 2020, and a past Commissioner for the Commission on Continuing Education Recognition Program (CCERP). He has also served in the House of Delegates for the American Dental Association, National Dental Association and Central Florida District Dental Association, as well as being a past-President of his local dental society.
Dr. Hughes is a graduate from the University of Florida College of Dentistry. Through his private practice, he has served the Gainesville, Alachua County and surrounding communities for over 30 years. He has dedicated his career to serving all individuals, especially those with a limited access to quality health care. Through his work Dr. Hughes has been inducted into the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists and has received numerous awards celebrating his commitment and service to the dental profession.
In his various different board capacities Dr. Hughes has worked on the Alachua County Gives Kids a Smile, Florida Mission of Mercy, fundraising for STOP! Children’s Cancer, and other various charitable missions. He has co-authored numerous abstracts and publications, as well as helping to direct the Howard-Meharry Adolescence Caries Study and creating National Dental Association Foundation Partner’s for Life Program.
